PLASTIC CONVEYOR BELTS

PLASTIC CONVEYOR BELTS

Different with the rubber conveyor belts, the plastic conveyor belts have the flater and smoother surface.

The mold plastic conveyor belts are molded with the large plastic with the customized width, length and thickness. However, the plastic characteristics are different.

PU and PVC conveyors belts are basically similar to each other. However, these two types of conveyor belts are made of two different materials, so they have different characteristics and are used for different purposes.

The following are characteristics of each type to appropriately use for the right purposes:

PU conveyor belt:

It is a conveyor belt which is made of polyurethane. Polyurethane (PU) is the only material that is more elastic than the rubber. Moreover, it is also more durable than metal. PU is a material has a wide range of hardness (from smooth to hard), as well as have oil resistance, tear resistance, scratch resistance and higher wear resistance than rubber several times. Compared with plastic, the PU has the excellent compressive strength, elasticity and shock resistance. Therefore, it is used instead of rubber and plastics in many industry- reducing machine and equipment’s maintenance time, as well as financial savings.

PU conveyor has great features, do not you?

On the other hand, the PVC conveyor belt is constructed with PVC.

PVC (Polyvinylchloride):

Previous PVC products (before 1920) were used in very large quantities, but today PE has won over. At present, PVC is mainly used to wrap electric cables, produce the drainage pipes, raincoats, and plastic films...

However, in PVC there is a Vinylchoride, commonly called VCM, that can cause cancer (discovered in 1970).

Characteristics:

PVC conveyor belts have these following defects:

- Weight: 1.4g/cm2 higher than PE and PP, it takes a large amount of PVC to obtain a membrane area of the same thickness comparing to PE and PP.

- Waterproof level is less than the PE, and PP.

- Brittle, not as flexible as PE or PP. Hence, in order to make the flexible PVC for packaging, the additives must be used.

- Flexible PVC which have additives will be hardened after a period of using time.

- Despite controlling VCM residues less than 1ppm- safe level, in Europe, the PVC is not allowed to use to make the food packaging, although it is cheaper than plastic.

Uses:

- Use as a label for all kinds of bottles, plastic bottles or films wrapped in food preservation, circulated for a short time such as raw meat, fresh vegetables....

In addition, PVC is used to make many household items as well as other kinds of products.
